Help Using Gmail to Send and Receive with Multiple Email Accounts

Initially, you can have [email protected] forward to a Gmail.com address by logging into the cPanel of your mail service provider and selecting “Forwarders.” Then, select “add email forwarder” and follow instructions.

Even if you’re not wearing multiple hats running a small company, you may want to create multiple email addresses, so that you can use different emails for different purposes. For example, maybe you’ll be hiring someone in the future to manage the address [email protected]. If you’re managing a domain with email capabilities, you can create multiple addresses, e.g. help or [email protected] and have each of them forward to one gmail address. You also do not need to save any email on your server, if gmail meets all your needs. Thus, an incoming email would come to your server and simply be forwarded to your gmail account, but not be stored on your server.

But, when you’re sending an email, you’re likely to want it sent from your domain, e.g [email protected] rather than from [email protected].

Configure your Gmail settings

Open the drop down menu shown below by clicking the gear in the upper right area of your screen, when in Gmail.

After you click settings the screen below appears (but opens “General”)

“Settings” will open the “General” section. You need to click “Accounts and Import.”

After you do this, look for the email sent to [email protected] and you’ll need to click a link or enter a code.

What if Google asks for your email credentials?

Here is an example with Bluehost as your mail service provider.

  1. Go to your Cpanel: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/cpanel
  2. email-credentials-for-googleSelect your “Email Manager”
  3. Select “Create an email account”
  4. Save the password (you’ll need this if Google asks for it later)
  5. If you get the Google dialog shown here, uncheck the “alias” setting.
  6. Enter mail.your_domain.org as the SMPTP server (this should work for most, but not all providers).
  7. Use Port: 25
  8. For username be sure to enter the whole email address.
  9. Use the same password you created earlier for thie email in question.

Now, set your default email address

You can choose either:

  • Reply from the same address the message was sent to OR
  • Always reply from default address
